SCALP MICRO PIGMENTATION – YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED
WHAT IS SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION (SMP)?
Scalp micropigmentation or SMP, is a very effective hair loss solution. Scalp Micropigmentation replicates the natural appearance of real hair follicles by depositing pigment into the skin with a micro needle. This treatment gives you the look of a full head of hair that has been closely shaven with any hairline you wish. It can also be used to add density to thinning hair.
WHY IS MY HAIRLINE RECEDING?
Sometimes the cause can be genetic, or the result of stress at work or in your private life, or can be caused as a result of illness or the use of certain medications. Losing hair is a common issue. Find more about the causes of hair loss here.
WHY SHOULD I GET SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION (SMP)?
SMP is a very popular hair loss solution. The micropigmentation of your scalp to restore the hairline is affordable, and there is no need for extensive maintenance. After treatment, you will only require a top-up annually or every few years, and you are only required to follow a straightforward aftercare regime. As a result, you will be free from worrying about your hair loss.
Also, micropigmentation of your scalp is a non-surgical procedure that does not require any recovery time. There are almost no side effects other than redness of the affected area. This redness usually goes away within 24-48 hours of the procedure; the outcome, however, is permanent and will last for years with a little upkeep.
HOW DOES THE PROCEDURE WORK?
Scalp micropigmentation creates the illusion of hair follicles. In a session of SMP, hair follicles will be tattooed on your scalp using ink to emulate the natural look. This procedure aims to put tiny and layered dots on the skin of your scalp at different depths to create the illusion of natural-looking hair. The technician will do their best to ensure that the dots blend seamlessly with your complexion and look natural.
HOW CAN SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION (SMP) HELP YOU?
If you have been feeling self-conscious or lacking confidence due to bald patches or a receding hairline, SMP can help. Whether you are a man or woman, losing hair regularly and at an alarming rate is devastating.
Along with causing anxiety, this can keep you from participating in daily activities such as swimming, going out with friends and family, and more. Micropigmentation of your scalp prevents you from focusing on your hair loss by restoring the illusion of a fuller head of hair. It will help restore self-confidence and help you return to daily life and regular activities.
WHO CAN GET SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION (SMP)?
The procedure is perfect for people suffering from every form of hair loss, including Cancer, Alopecia, Genetic hair loss, Thinning hair and Male and female pattern baldness.
If you are suffering from any of these conditions and are above 18 years, you can choose scalp micropigmentation to regain your hair and lost confidence.
WILL THE PROCEDURE HURT?
Each individual will experience the procedure differently. People’s pain tolerance varies, which means whether SMP will be painful or not depends on you. If you are prone to scalp acne or psoriasis, SMP should be avoided during a flare-up or breakout, as it can cause further pain.
HOW MANY SESSIONS OF SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION WILL I NEED?
The number of sessions you require will depend on the SMP practitioner and what they think is best. Usually 2-3 sessions are required as a minimum. Your sessions will usually be scheduled a few weeks apart unless your consultant thinks otherwise. Each session usually takes between four to five hours.
WHO WILL CARRY OUT MY TREATMENT?
At CrownCouture your procedure will be carried out by a fully trained, licensed and insured tattoo artist who also holds all the required certification in first aid practice and infection control.
HOW LONG WILL THE RESULTS LAST?
Scalp micropigmentation is considered semi-permanent, which means it will last for years, but regular maintenance is needed. The outcome may last up to 8 years but will eventually disappear with natural skin exfoliation. The colour will fade with time if you do not take proper care of your skin. If you have dry skin, there will be more exfoliation, and the effects will fade faster. If your skin is not dry, it will take longer.
SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION – TOP TIPS
Before going for your SMP session, you should follow some important guidelines. They will help enhance your experience with scalp micropigmentation.
- You MUST shower before each session as you won’t be able to wash your scalp or wet it for at least four days after each session
- You should not go swimming, use the sauna or steam rooms, or take extremely hot showers between sessions
- Your scalp should not be exposed to the sun for at least four days after the sessions. On the fifth day, you may expose your scalp to the sun, but not for more than an hour. Less exposure will mean better long-term effects from the treatment
- Once the final session is over, you should stay away from swimming pools, saunas and steam rooms for a minimum of 28 days. You should also stay away from the sun for the same period and use sunscreen with SPF 30-50 afterwards
- You should avoid heavy exercise for at least five days after each session and regularly moisturise your scalp after the fourth day of the treatment.
SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION RISKS
Despite being non-surgical, certain risks are associated with micropigmentation of your scalp, such as allergic reactions and a chance of infection.
