MENS HAIR REPLACEMENT SYSTEM FAQs
Why do men wear hair replacement systems or toupees?
The end goal of using a hair unit is to cover up areas of hair loss on the scalp, such as a receding hairline or hair loss on the top and crown of the head. Regardless of whether your hair loss is caused by male pattern baldness, Alopecia or is hereditary, our tailor-made hair loss systems can help restore your confidence.
These hair pieces are attached 24/7, allowing the wearer to enjoy a full head of hair once again! Modern men’s hair pieces are well-designed and very natural-looking.
How can this hair loss system help me?
If you have been feeling self-conscious or lacking confidence due to bald patches or a receding hairline, having a men’s hair replacement system installed can help. Losing hair regularly and at an alarming rate is devastating.
Along with causing anxiety, this can keep you from participating in daily activities such as swimming, going out with friends and family, and more. Having a men’s hair replacement system attached will prevent you from focusing on your hair loss by restoring the illusion of a fuller head of hair. It will help restore self-confidence and help you return to daily life and regular activities.
How natural does a men’s hair replacement system/toupee look?
Modern men’s hair pieces are well-designed and natural-looking. They are made from natural hair that will 100% match your own hair colour. The base of the unit is designed in such a way that allows breathability and gives the illusion of the hair growing directly from the scalp. They are so well designed that you can even see the natural scalp when the unit moves or is parted.
Once fitted, the unit is cut into the desired hairstyle, blending in seamlessly with the existing natural hair on the sides and back of the head.
How is the men’s hair replacement system/toupee held on?
This unit is held in place using a strong, waterproof double-sided adhesive tape or liquid adhesive.
How long does a glued hair replacement system/toupee last?
As a general rule, we recommend you wear a unit for two to three weeks at a time. Ideally, you want to give your scalp and natural hair a thorough wash and condition before reattaching it again. If you have two hair systems, rotate between them to extend the lifespan of each.
Can you sleep with the hair unit/toupee attached?
Our systems do not need removing when you go to bed. Your hair system will stay fixed and securely in place whilst you are sleeping.
Can you shower with the hair unit/toupee attached?
A hair replacement system should never be an inconvenience to the wearer. So yes, you can shower with a high-quality hair system attached. Just like regular hair, you can shower and wash your hair as normal. We recommend your system to be washed once or twice per week.
Can I excercise with the hair unit/toupee attached?
Yes! Work out, lift weights, go running – your hair system will remain secure and undetectable at all times, leaving you to get on and stay active.
Does the unit come off with sweat?
The Adhesive used to attach a men’s hair replacement system is waterproof and holds through sweat, water, and an oily scalp. Therefore, you can continue with normal daily exercise, and can also swim in your unit.
What is the lifespan of a men’s hair replacement system/toupee?
The short answer to this question would be that it depends. Presuming high-quality materials are used, combined with proper care and maintenance, an average hair system lifespan is usually around 6-10 months if worn on a daily basis. Obviously this will vary depending on the wearers aftercare and daily routine.
Is there an ongoing salon maintenance involved?
Many of our clients choose to maintain their systems at home, removing and reattaching the unit themselves every 2-3 weeks at their convenience, at home. Our in-salon team will ensure that you are confident in carrying out this task before leaving. Clients usually return for a new unit every 6-9 months.
If you require help reattaching your unit however, this can also be carried out in salon.
What are the risks?
Despite being non-surgical, certain risks could be associated with attaching a unit to your scalp, such as an allergic reaction. A patch test will be carried out at your consultation to minimise this risk.
In addition, if the wearer is not carrying out the advised aftercare, then skin irritation can occur on the scalp.
